Motivate Your Students with Suggestions from a Reading Teacher
Trina Cornell, reading teacher at Holman Middle School in Saint Ann, Missouri, has created an exciting motivation contest for students in 7th and 8th grades. It is called "Ready, Set, GO!" Students have three weeks to earn five Combos and complete 15 SeeReader Reading lessons above 80% comprehension.
Students have a tracking sheet to track their "green" (80% or higher) Reading lessons, and a checkered flag placard to keep up with their Combos. Students can win a number of prizes, and the more they accomplish, the better their chances of winning. Trina has always had great success motivating her students. She says, "I believe [this contest] will motivate my 7th and 8th graders to 'fast track' themselves…. Everyone loves a good competition, and Reading Plus is the perfect avenue for this to occur!"
